1. Jerry Ringer welcomed everyone and reviewed the minutes from the September 17, 1999 meeting. Minutes were approved and Jerry reported that he has sent a copy of the minutes to Bob Keropian for his information relative to Item 8, Walter J. Zable/San Diego Chapter Board of Directors Meeting Minutes of November 10, 1999

2. Jerry introduced Don Whitt from Cubic's technical publication
department., who will now be in support of our chapter's graphic, printing and photo requirements. Mr. Whitt and his department has the full capability to support the chapter and is pleased to be doing the work.

3. Jeff Abrams reviewed the new and improved scholar-athlete selection process and the revised forms.

a. Nominations for the chapters Distinguished American award were opened. Jerry nominated Bill Mast, our chapters co-founder and first president. There were no other names mentioned, but the nomination remains open.

b. Coach and Meritorious Coach of the year nominations were also opened. Jerry suggested the name of chapter board member Jerry Ralph of Santana High as Coach of the Year. Other nominations were Ken Broch, San Marcos High and Willie Matson of Hoover. Nominations remain open.

c. Willie Jones Memorial for most Inspirational Player nominations were opened. Steve Brand suggested two deaf players at Madison High. Jerry Ralph mentioned his player Kevin Wilson, who doctors said would die due to heat exhaustion due to a kidney problem in practice this year. He's come back to play for the Sultans. Nominations here are also still open.

d. Date of selection committee meeting is set for January 11, 2000 at NFF headquarters.

4. MVP Program - Steve Haynes has arranged for each MVP from our game of the week to attend the Chargers game on Dec. 5, which will include lunch at Sammy's Woodfired Pizza restaurant, and trolley transportation to an from the Q.

Dennis Ackerman and Steve Brand agreed that attendance at high school football games here is way up over prior years. Much better media coverage and interest in high school sports. They attributed some of the improvement in our game of the week.

a. Jerry to ask Dennis for media lists for chapters awards banquet.

5. There was no treasurers report as Allen C. Brown could not attend meeting. Jerry assured the board that the financial condition of the chapter is good.

a. Jerry mentioned that MVP winner in 1998, Ricky Davis, complained to John Rozar that he did not receive is patch nor did Sweetwater High get any shoulder pads. Jerry said chapter sent both items to the school on Nov. 10, 1998 to coach Garcia. Chapter sent Davis a letter in c/o AD Tim Latham on Nov. 3, 1999, stating both items were sent. Copies of the letter were distributed to the board.

6. Dennis Ackerman reviewed the high school football playoff schedule and thanked the board for their $500 support.

7. No report on National was given as Walt Zable was unable to attend meeting.

a. Coryell Hall of Fame Event on Oct. 9, 1999 at the Q went off okay except SDSU SDI forgot to bring Hall of Fame plaque to present to Coach Coryell.

b. Chapter is sponsoring Bob Babich and his wife Barbara will attend the 1999 NFF awards banquet in New York on Dec. 7, 1999,

c. Jerry reported that Bob Casciola, National's president will visit San Diego the first week of Jan. 2000 to discuss NFF/NFL Get Smart program. It's a program to get students to play football at an early age and do well in school. He wants our chapter's help. Will ask Dennis Ackerman to attend meeting with Jerry .

8. New Business -

a. Brain Fogarty talked about the excellent football game and attendance USD had when visited this year by Yale University's team. USD plays them and Brown in coming years.

b. Jerry said November chapter newsletter now in works.

There was no further business. Meeting ended at 1 p.m.
