Dennis A. Pugh is this year's Coach of the Year.
He guided Mission Bay High to a 13-0 football season, and was
named Coach of the Year for schools with medium- size enrollment
by Cal-Hi Sports Magazine.
Also known for his success in baseball, Pugh called the Buccaneer's
first perfect football season "a storybook, magical year."
In 1995, he was named baseball Coach of the Year by Cal-Hi Sports
and National District 8 Coach of the Year by the American Baseball
Coaches Assn.
He has been at Mission Bay High School for 26 years, 11 years
of which have been as head football coach. He was head coach of
the school's baseball team for 21 years during which time the
Bucs won six CIF championships and went to the CIF finals nine
times. He was 13-0 last season and has an overall record of 60-47.
As football coach, his teams have one CIF and three league championships.
Pugh also won Coach of the Year honors for the 1989-90-football
season.
He is a graduate of San Diego State University where he received
a bachelor of arts degree. He received his master's degree from
Azusa-Pacific University.
Pugh said that he has had many meaningful experiences as a head
football and head baseball coach with each having its own
rewards both personally and spiritually. This year is especially
magical and rewarding. I'm most proud of the players I've had
the pleasure of coaching.
Pugh and his wife, Marilyn, live in Cardiff.
