Carl Parrick
Bonita Vista High School
Head Coach
|
Carl Parrick just completed his 20th year as a head football coach. Coach
P, as he is known by his players, has a career regular season
record of 125-66-6, and has the most career wins at two South Bay Schools,
Southwest and Bonita Vista.
A 1965 alumnus of Hilltop High School and a 1972 graduate of San Diego
State University, Parrick began his coaching career in 1972 at Marian
High School. Three years later with teaching credential in hand, he assisted
at Hilltop and Southwest, before taking over as head coach at Southwest
in 1981. Taking over a program that had only four victories in the previous
five seasons, Coach P led the Raiders to their first league
championship in 1982 and eight play-off appearances in the following 10
seasons.
After the 1991 season, Coach Parrick and his nine assistants packed up
and moved to rival Bonita Vista High School. The challenge of taking over
another perennial cellar dweller with only one winning season since 1980
was his reason for leaving Southwest. It helped that Bonita Vista was
near his home. In Parrick's nine seasons at Bonita Vista, the Barons have
won three conference titles, finished second five times, and have qualified
for the CIF play-offs nine consecutive years, while compiling a regular
season record of 66-22-2.
By Parrick's side for all 20 years has been his best friend, Greg Raby,
an assistant coach. Without Greg, none of this would have been possible.
His loyalty and friendship have been everlasting. His other most valuable
20-year assistant has been his wife, Linda. Linda has been with
me through all the peaks and valleys of coaching and life, always giving
me her love and support.
The Parricks reside in Bonita with their 6-year-old daughter, Leanne.
