Matt Kovacevich is a 6-foot, 175-pound wide receiver and safety from
El Camino High School. In addition, he was the team's placekicker and
punter. Kovacevich was first-team All-CIF, first-team All-Avocado League
and was the Avocado League Kicker of the Year.
As a defensive back, he led his team with five interceptions. As a kicker,
he led all San Diego teams in points scored with 78, including 11 field
goals. He broke the school's record for most career kicking points and
most career field goals. He was his team's co-captain and co-Defensive
Back of the Year. An All-North County player, he was also honorable mention
All-State in football. He received the North Conference Sportsmanship
Award. The San Diego Union-Tribune named him to their All-Academic First
Team. His coach, Herb Meyer, described Kovacevich as an outstanding
role model for our younger players. Kovacevich received three letters
in varsity football, two in baseball and one in basketball.
With a 3.38 grade point average, he was listed on the school's Honor Roll
and received the Art Department's Principal's Award. He plans to major
in graphic design. Kovacevich lists his hobbies as art, video games, chess
and music. He is the son of Bill and DeeDee Kovacevich of Oceanside.
